The Great Adventure

On May 20, 2023, two of my friends from the University of Wisconsin and I set out on a twenty day trip through Indonesia and Japan in search of waves, food, people, and anything and everything new. It was all of our first times in Asia, which to me, is truly the unknown. I had dreamt of visiting Bali, Indonesia since I was a high schooler reading Surfer Magazine. I was prepared for this leg of the journey as my time spent in Hawaii was a strong introduction to surfing and living in the tropics. Japan, on the other hand, was completely unknown. Prior to this trip I had voluntarily eaten sushi once or twice in my entire life. Luckily, I knew I liked ramen noodles, and my buddies Ryan and Alex are the most adventurous eaters I know.

I am now in the process of working on my first big personal creative project. I am making a small “zine” style book chronicling some of the adventures from this nearly three-week-long journey. I am going to write, edit, and curate all of my photographs, build the book in Adobe InDesign, and print it myself. I am just starting my writing and photo curation, and I cannot wait to keep working on it. It’s going to be really cool.
